สืบเนื่องจากกฎหมายการปกป้องสิทธิเด็ก ทางเอเอฟเอส ประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา ได้เพิ่มมาตรการเกี่ยวกับการป้องกันอาชญากรรมที่เกี่ยวข้องกับผู้เข้าร่วมโครงการ หากผู้ร่วมเข้าโครงการ มีส่วนเกี่ยวข้องกับกรณีต่าง ๆ ต่อไปนี้ ตัวผู้เข้าร่วมโครงการ ครอบครัวอุปถัมภ์ อาสาสมัครประจำเขต หรือโรงเรียน จะต้องรายงานให้ AFS-USA และแจ้งความ ณ สถานีตำรวจท้องที่ทราบทันที เพื่อให้ฝ่ายป้องกันอาญากรรมที่เกี่ยวกับเยาวชนได้ทำการสืบสวนต่อไป
1. มีส่วนเกี่ยวข้องกับการทำร้ายร่างกายที่ทำให้เสียเลือดหรือชีวิต
2. สมาชิกในครอบครัวอุปถัมภ์ ทำการล้วงข้อมูลทางการเงินของผู้เข้าร่วมโครงการ เช่น ข้อมูลบัตรเครดิต เช็ค หรือบัญชีธนาคาร
3. ผู้เข้าร่วมโครงการตกเป็นเหยื่อในอาชญากรรมทุกประเภท
4. ผู้เข้าร่วมโครงการถูกกระทำทารุณทางเพศ
5. หายตัวไปเกินกว่า 24 ชั่วโมง โดยไม่แจ้งให้ครอบครัวอุปถัมภ์ โรงเรียน หรืออาสาสมัครทราบ
6. มีส่วนร่วมในกิจกรรมผิดกฏหมาย และถูกตีแผ่ข้อมูลผ่านสื่อสารมวลชน

AFS Student Notification Policy

The AFS-USA Notification Policy has been updated to reflect the current requirements of the Department of State. Please note that any of the following problems should be reported to regional support staff or the duty officer immediately. Thank you for your cooperation in this important matter.
AFS-USA Notification Policy June 12, 2009
AFS is required by law to promptly notify the US State Department of any unusual or exceptional incidents that may bring the Department or AFS into notoriety or disrepute. Further, AFS must report incidents involving alleged sexual misconduct. Problems or controversies that we must report include, but are not limited to,
1. events involving serious bodily injury or death
2. allegations that the host family has taken or misappropriated the student’s money or credit cards
3. events in which the student was a victim or perpetrator of a crime
4. events, alleged or actual, where the student is the victim or perpetrator of sexual assault
5. missing/runaway students longer than 24 hours
6. any issue that has the potential for press coverage
When AFS is informed of any incident or allegation involving the actual or alleged sexual exploitation or abuse of a student participant, staff will also be required to report it to local police and Child Protective Services for further investigation.
